Bella
Lesson 3.4.2010
Hi Bella,
Here are some things to remember when you are practicing your bow hold and remembering how to hold the cello and name the different strings.
- when you make your bow hold lay your right hand palm up and then remember where your thumb goes then flip the bow and your hand over and let your other fingers just fall over the stick. To make it a little easier you can practice with a pencil or pen just pretend it is a really really really short bow. Here are some pictures to help you:

Remember to let all of your fingers be touching the bow (don’t lift up your pinky) also make sure to keep your thumb bent, not straight.
The Cello Strings!!!!
The strings of the cello are really easy to remember, when you are holding the cello and looking down at them they go from highest A to lowest C. Think of some word that start with the letters from the four strings. Here are some ideas:
A – Apples
D – Daisy
G – Grass
C – Car
Now let’s think of a phrase that we can make with the letters. Here’s my idea:
All Dogs Go Camping
You can come up with your own ideas as well.
Holding your Cello:
Here are some things to remember about holding your cello. The neck and the pegs go over you left shoulder and you hold the cello between your knees and it also should rest on your chest as well. Here are some pictures to help you remember what it should look like:

That’s all have a good week and I’ll see you next Thursday!
